Their brittle rustling blended with the distant murmur of prayers, creating a mournful melody that lingered beneath the heavy sky. Dark clouds hung low overhead, swallowing every trace of sunlight, while the earth beneath the mourners' feet remained damp from the rain that had fallen through the night.
Dressed in black, Eden stood among the sea of grieving faces, his polished shoes sinking ever so slightly into the softened soil. The crisp collar of his coat suddenly felt too tight against his throat, making each breath heavier than the last.
